Las últimas obras de Ampliación y Remodelación del Casón fueron iniciadas en 1997 y finalizadas oficialmente en el año 2009 con la apertura del edifico como Centro de Estudios del Museo del Prado. Estos trabajos proporcionaron nuevos espacios al edificio con la construcción de dos sótanos bajo el nivel de acceso.
El enorme valor histórico y artístico del edificio condicionó el proyecto y las obras. Las magníficas pinturas de Lucas Jordán sobre las frágiles bóvedas de la Sala de Embajadores determinaron unas medidas de seguridad muy estrictas y un exhaustivo sistema de control.
ABSTRACT
The latest works of the Expansion and Remodeling of the Cason began in 1997 and officially ended in 2009 when it opened as a Study Centre of the Prado Museum. These works provided new spaces for the building with the construction of two basements floors below the Access Level.
The great historic and artistic value of the building put conditions on the project and works. The magnificent paintings of Luca Giordano on the fragile vaulted ceiling of the Ambassadors Hall obligated rigorous security measures and control system.
